Did you know that the North Kohala community has a goal to produce 50% of the food it consumes by 2018?

There are many business and community project that are increasing access to locally grown food and helping the community develop a local, sustainable food system. To coincide with the Kanu Hawaii Eat Local Challenge month, this September the North Kohala Eat Locally Grown Campaign and its partners are launching a year long campaign to increase the awareness and availability of locally grown foods.

Thanks to grants from the County of Hawai’i Office of Research and Development and County Council and Kaiser Permanente this year we will be developing a community based strategic plan so we can achieve our 50% food self-sufficiency goal. And because we believe in acting and planning concurrently, we will also be running a full year’s worth of programs which connect people to healthy, local food.

Join us in September for the Kanu Hawaii Eat Local Challenge and attend some of our local food community events.
